Halt die Kanne feste

Capo 2

Es [D]hett ein Schwab ein [A]Töchterlein,
das [D]wollt nit länger [A]dienen
[D]Halt die [G]Kanne [A]feste
bei [D]Nachte, fein [A]sachte,
[D]Halt die Kanne, [A]schöne base Anne,
[D]halt die [A]Kanne [D]feste.

[D]Halt die [G]Kanne [A]feste,
bei [D]Nachte, fein [A]sachte
[D]Halt die Kanne [A]schöne base Anne,
[G]halt die [A]Kanne [D]feste.

Die [D]Leute [A]wollen [D]wissen,
was [D]geht es die [A]anderen [D]an.

Wir beide sind verbunden
in lauter Lieb und treu
Glückselig sind die Stunden

da wir beisammen sein.

Es ist ein Schnee gefallen

Capo 5

Es [D]ist ein Schnee gefa[A]l[D]len
ge[G]fallen auf meinen [A]Fuss
Mein [A]Schatz ist hundert [D]Meilen [Bm]weit

Feinsliebchen in ihrem Schlafkämmerlein

so musst du wackers braunes Mädelein
bei mir und die in Schanden sein
in Schanden musst du sein“

The Louse House of Kilkenny

Oh, the first [Dm]of me downfall, I [C]walked out the [Dm]door,
I stra[C]ight made me way on for Carrick-on-Suir,
going into [Dm]Kilkenny, 'twas late in the night,
as [Dm]I went through that city I saw the gaslight.
Mi [Dm]fal de diddle dera, fy [C]era fy [Dm]aye [Dm] [C] [Dm]

I we[Dm]nt to the town's hall to see the big lamp,
and whom sh[C]ould I meet but a bloody big tramp.
I [Dm]finally stepped over and to him I said:
'Will you kindly direct me t‘ where I'll get a bed'.
Mi [Dm]fal de diddle dera, fy [C]era fy [Dm]aye [Dm] [C] [Dm]

'Twas then h[Dm]e directed me down to Cooks Lane,
t’where [C]old Buck St.John kept an old sleeping cage.
From out o[Dm]f the door was a small piece of board,
hung out on two nails with a short piece of cord.
Mi [Dm]fal de diddle dera, fy [C]era fy [Dm]aye [Dm] [C] [Dm]

Well, I look[Dm]ed up and down till I found out the door,
and a queerer o[C]ld household sure I ne'er saw before.
Then the Misses [Dm]came out and these words to me said:
'If you give me three coppers, sure I'll give you a bed'.
Mi [Dm]fal de diddle dera, fy [C]era fy [Dm]aye [Dm] [C] [Dm]

Well, I then [Dm]stood aside with me back to the wall,
and the next th[C]ing I saw was an oul cobbler's stall.
And there[Dm] was the cobbler and he mended his brogues,
with his hammers and pinchers all laid in a row.
Mi [Dm]fal de diddle dera, fy [C]era fy [Dm]aye [Dm] [C] [Dm]

Then she brought me[Dm] upstairs and she put out the light,
and in less [C]than five minutes I had to show fight.
And in less [Dm]than five more when the story was best,
the fleas came around me and brought me a curse.
Mi [Dm]fal de diddle dera, fy [C]era fy [Dm]aye [Dm] [C] [Dm]

'twas all [Dm]around me body they formed a march,
'twas all[C] around me body they played the Death march.
For the bloody[Dm] oul major gave me such a pick,
that he nearly made away with half of me hip.
Mi [Dm]fal de diddle dera, fy [C]era fy [Dm]aye [Dm] [C] [Dm]

Now I'm going to[Dm] me study, these lines to pen down,
and if any p[C]oor traveller should e'er come to town,
and if any [Dm]poor traveller should be knighted like me,
beware of Buck St.John and his black cavalry.
